Sony’s new slimmer PS5 could be on its way sooner than expected. Leakers have managed to snap a few pics of the new console in all its fish-tail glory. Plus, if these leaks are right, we may only need to wait a little more than a week before the PS5 starts shipping to U.S.-based customers.
One Twitter user who goes by the name @phantompainss shared a few photos of the new slimmer PS5 next to an older model console, though the latter has a black aftermarket shell from dBrand. Other Twitter users managed to pick up the pictures after they were taken down, though how long those will last depends on how fast Sony gets to them.
The new PlayStation 5 is indeed smaller and a fair bit thinner, but it still has the same sort of silhouette as the previous version. The black dBrand wings only help emphasize just how oddly shaped the PS5 is with those large white whale fins sticking up to either side. It’s what made the original PS5 so strange to set up since it had to rest awkwardly on the custom stand rather than simply laying on its own haunches. The new detachable disc drive (which can be bought separately for $80) really sticks out compared to the older edition.
Notably, the new PS5 doesn’t include a vertical stand in-box. That’s being sold separately for $30. The new horizontal stand comes in two plastic pieces, according to one image by @phantompainss screenshotted by The Verge. Sony is also selling different colored wings in colors like matte black, red, blue, silver, and “Deep Earth” (likely a green color) for $55 each, though these will come at some later date.
One YouTuber shared how the console would look next to its older brother with a 3D render, but it’s just not quite the same until you have both sitting side by side. The new console may finally fit inside a few smaller cabinets and shelves, but there are a few other benefits to the new PS5. It goes from 825 GB base to 1 TB of storage.
According to some leak ads (via Chalieintel), the PlayStation 5 Slim Disc Edition Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III console bundle will be available on November 10 for $499, which includes a free copy of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
There’s also apparently a new Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 bundle that features the new slim PlayStation 5. It will cost $560, according to the dataminer, so users could save $10 if they were set on buying the game and console new.
